Experiments with smartphone videography

As we all know smartphones of today have gone on to become very capable photography devices. There are full fledged feature length films being shot on smartphones, the 2015 film “Tangerine” is one such example, it was shot entirely on iPhone 5s cameras and got a premiere at Sundance!
As I have started exploring the methods and tools for smartphone videography, I have found out that there are very interesting add-on lens available in the market. After some basic searing, I found that the lenses made by Moment were pretty well reviews, so I got myself an 18-mm wide lens.

I have been more than happy with results using the lens.

Another important aspect the is camera app being used, the basic pre-installed camera apps does not give full control over shutter speed, ISO, white balance; so it becomes difficult to take professional looking shots, as the exposure keeps changing within a shot automatically. I have been using the Filmic-Pro app with my Galaxy S8 for this and I must say I simply love how much of a difference the app actually makes.

Here’s a small time-lapse I shot on one fine sunny day. Take a look!
